The Espoo-Convention regulates approval procedures for technical plants which can lead to cross-boarder environmental impacts. In this project, a decision procedure was developed (indicators, scientific foundation) with the aim that the Austrian Ministry can decide in an early stage of an international participation procedure, when no complete information is given, if a participation of Austria should be aspired. ENSEMBLE is a project which aims at providing effective communication procedures and software tools for reconciliation and harmonisation of disparate national long-range dispersion forecasts across Europe during a nuclear accident. It provides a true real-time Web-based and user-friendly decision support system for long-range atmospheric dispersion data exchange and model evaluation.
FLEXTRA and FLEXPART are an atmospheric trajectory and a particle dispersion model, respectively, that are used by a growing user community. FLEXPART is a Lagrangian dispersion model originally developed at BOKU-Met. The main developer, Andreas Stohl, continues to work on the model at the Norwegian Institute for Air Research in the Department of Atmospheric and Climate Research (NILU), with contributions of, inter alia, BOKU-Met. See also Stohl et al. 2005
Riskmap was a project in which a map of the nuclear risk in Europe has been developed as a discussion base for international nuclear liability law. Geographical distribution of the nuclear risk in Europe due to civil nuclear power plants (NPP) was calculated in order to:
